Sagacity’s Sunset

“Sagacity’s Sunset"

"Sagacity’s Sunset" takes a playful yet insightful look at how we treat knowledge, comparing those who cherish it to those who treat it like an old, mismatched sock. Though it didn't start with a political message in mind, the symbolism quickly took on a life of its own as I was working on the piece.

In the middle of the pandemonium is an American eagle, gleefully shredding books like a librarian who’s had one too many espressos, tossing ripped pages everywhere. This feathered troublemaker captures the troubling trend of tossing aside science and knowledge in a nostalgic bid to return to the "good old days."

Meanwhile, an owl sits on a globe, watching the spectacle with wise, knowing eyes, reminding us to build our future on a foundation of accurate and shared knowledge. Overseeing the entire scene is a man with a book, symbolizing those who still appreciate and uphold the importance of learning. He’s like a beacon of hope, suggesting that even in the chaos, there are still folks dedicated to wisdom and progress.

"Sagacity’s Sunset" combines humor with a touch of provocation to highlight the importance of valuing knowledge and using it to create a better future. Let’s keep our wits about us, and aim for a world where eagles and owls can coexist without a paper massacre.
