Bison in the Snow

16” x 40”, oil on canvas

During a tour of the Yukon Wildlife Preserve in Whitehorse, I had the incredible opportunity to witness a group of wood bison resting in the snow. It was a lucky encounter, as these animals roam over such a vast territory and don't always stay near the fences where visitors can spot them. That day, we also saw two moose, an arctic fox, and a muskox, among other animals. The bison were so peaceful in the snow, and I wanted to capture that serene moment in my painting. It was a special experience, one that not all visitors get, and I’m grateful to have witnessed it firsthand.
