The Perfect Afternoon
36” x 48”, oil on canvas
This scene was captured in the Kootenay National Park at a spot where the Banff-Windermere Highway bends around Vermillion Peak in the East and comes very close to the Kootenay River in the West.
The distant range was framed perfectly by the green mountain sides and there was a beautiful haze in the air. It really enhanced the sense of distance and the height of the mountains which even in the middle of summer’s heat had snow on them.
With not a soul around, all you could hear was the steady rush of the turquoise waters and the sound of insects in the grass. The air stood perfectly still, letting the aura of wildflowers diffuse throughout it. It was the perfect afternoon.
